The Mount Baker Ski Area is home to the world’s greatest recorded snowfall in one season, 1,140 inches, recorded during the 1998–99 season. Mt. Baker also enjoys the unofficially highest average annual snowfall of any resort in the world, with 641 inches average per year.

The Mount Baker Ski Area is known for numerous challenging in-bounds routes and for the many back-country opportunities that surround it. The back-country is accessible from several chairlifts, and access is permitted from the resort following the Mt. Baker Ski Area back-country policy.

Plan for at least 1 hr 15 min – Take Exit 255 Off Interstate 5, then drive52 miles East of Bellingham on State Hwy 542 to the end of the highway.

Mount Baker Highway

With its majestic glaciers, 10,778 foot Mount Baker is just 90 minutes away from Bellingham and may be seen from much of Whatcom County (I-5 Exit 255). More than majestic views and natural beauty, the Mount Baker Highway offers insight into the history of the Pacific Northwest. Designated a Washington State Scenic and Recreation highway in 1967, the highway continues 58 miles from I-5 in Bellingham to Artist Point (elev. 5,140 ft.), viewpoint surround by Mt. Legendary Banked Slalom – Started in 1985, this slalom snowboard race through the natural half-pipe has evolved into an international event. The Legendary Banked Slalom attracts many professionals from around the world as competitors and allows amateurs of all ages and abilities to compete on the same course over the same period with the professionals. The winner in each category receives a duct tape trophy and an embroidered Carhartt jacket.
